When you buy boat insurance, you have two choices: you can add the boat to your existing home insurance policy, or you can buy a separate boat insurance policy. Boat insurance is not legally required in Ontario, but it's a good idea to get coverage if you finance the boat, or if your lender requires it. Some marinas also require boat insurance when your boat is stored there.
